What Kiln can do.

Design, printability, lifecycle, fleet, safety, and the agent protocol that ties them together — every capability currently shipping.

What Kiln does

Every capability in the box — from parametric generation to signed releases.

Text & Sketch to 3D

Describe what you want or sketch it. Kiln writes parametric OpenSCAD with a 14-component catalog (gears, threads, hinges, bearings) for precise parts, or sculpts free-form organic shapes directly for everything else — both free, no key required. Plug in your own key for external providers (Gemini Deep Think, Meshy, Tripo3D, Stability AI). Design DNA preserves the source for iteration.

Git for 3D Printing

Branch new ideas without losing the working version. Merge what prints best. Sign a release and prove later that nothing changed — and every file Kiln makes carries its own signed, publicly-checkable stamp at kiln3d.com/verify, with optional creator credit on Pro. Works on your designs, your decorations, and your mechanical features. Runs offline on free tier; Pro+ syncs across machines via Kiln’s cloud.

Print → Monitor → Recover

Full lifecycle: slice, validate safety, upload, print, control speed with natural language, monitor with camera vision, detect failures, diagnose root cause, auto-fix slicer settings, and retry. One conversation, start to finish.

Safety at Every Step

51 named per-printer safety profiles with temperature and speed limits. G-code validation before every send. Preflight checks, emergency stop, heater watchdog, G-code interception. Agents can’t bypass safety.

903 MCP Capabilities, One Protocol

903 MCP capabilities and 235 CLI commands with --json output. Any MCP-compatible agent gets full access. Open source, AGPL-3.0 licensed, plugin-extensible.

Turn It Over in 3D, Mid-Chat

Any design opens as a live, interactive 3D stage right inside the conversation — drag to rotate, zoom, tip it over and check the underside — instead of a flat render. Built on MCP Apps; Claude and other interactive-panel clients show it inline, everyone else gets a live link. Long jobs (a texture carve, a mesh repair, an assembly booklet) hand back a ticket instead of freezing the chat.

CAD Files In, Free

Already have a STEP file? Drop it in — Kiln converts, repairs, and preps it for print, no separate mesh export needed. A multi-part colored assembly keeps its part names and colors for multi-material printing. Free on every tier, including the hosted connector.

CAD Files Out, Exact

Every product Kiln designs can leave as a real STEP file — exact CAD geometry a machine shop’s software opens as one clean solid and measures true radii on, not a renamed mesh. Ask for it when you generate, or export any design Kiln filed for you later. When a design truly can’t be CAD — a photo relief, text wrapped around a curved wall — Kiln says so plainly and points to the formats that carry it honestly, instead of shipping a faceted imitation. Free, like STL and 3MF.

Design in the Browser, No Install

Sign in at kiln3d.com and go: pick a ready-to-make object, decorate it with textures, your own photos, or logos, all previewing live in 3D. Already have a file? Open it to just look — no account needed. No install, no printer, no API key.

Design Intelligence

25 FDM materials with full engineering properties, 45 brand-specific filament profiles, 18 proven design templates (snap-fits, living hinges, threads), and structural load estimation. Kiln understands what makes a good print before generating anything.

Printability Engine

Analyze models across 7 dimensions (overhangs, thin walls, bridging, adhesion, supports, warping, thermal stress), score 0–100, auto-orient, repair broken meshes, and auto-scale AI-generated models. Problems get fixed, not just flagged.

Doomed Prints Stopped Early

Too big for the build plate, or a material your hotend can’t melt? Kiln stops the print before it wastes filament or crashes the nozzle — rotating the part to fit when that solves it, never blocking when it isn’t sure, with a one-command override. Free for everyone; Pro adds the fix: your printer’s true usable area, the cleanest split, or the material to switch to.

Too Big? Kiln Cuts It Into a Kit

Hand Kiln a model that won’t fit your build plate and it works out the fewest pieces that will — cutting at a natural seam (a neck, a waist) rather than hacking through the middle, and sealing every cut face so each piece actually prints. It tells you honestly whether it found a natural seam or just divided evenly. Splitting is free; Kiln Pro designs how the pieces attach (pins, magnets, or hardware) and tells you what the joint will hold.

What Can This Part Survive?

Ask about the exact liquid or exposure you have in mind — cleaners, oils, sunlight, fuel — and Kiln answers honestly, including that printed parts take chemicals harder than solid plastic. The same honesty covers magnets, ESD-safe electronics work, conformal coatings, adhesive bonds, and skin contact for wearables. Warnings are always free. Everyday-exposure go-aheads are Business; safety-critical answers (fuels, food contact, harsh chemicals) are Enterprise.

Multi-Part Assembly

Design assemblies with up to 10 parts (unlimited with Pro). Clearance validation, joint type detection (snap-fit, press-fit, threaded), tolerance stacking, and automatic split planning for oversize models. Multi-part prints can auto-ship a printable assembly manual (Kiln Business).

Auto Assembly Manuals

Multi-part prints generate a printable PDF assembly manual (Kiln Business) alongside the slice — Bill of Materials, isometric per-step renders, mating-direction arrows, pause-and-check verification gates. Strict-certainty mode: 100% confident or refuses with surgical fix-it instructions. Multilingual single-PDF + co-branded covers; "what changed" diff PDFs for buyers of older revisions. Factory work instructions (part numbers, torque, inspection sign-off) in seven languages on Enterprise.

Will This Customer Drawing Pass?

Hand Kiln a customer’s engineering drawing — a PDF, or a photo of one — and get a dimension-by-dimension verdict: which tolerances your printers can hold, how many good parts to expect per batch, and what would improve the odds. Kiln Business.

The Drawing Knows How It Prints

Ask for a keychain with a 5mm ring hole and the production drawing labels the hole Ø5.7 — the size it actually prints, compensated for FDM, read off the design’s own CAD geometry and double-checked against the exported STEP. Every number on the sheet is marked asked-for, as-printed, or measured, so a machinist knows exactly which to trust. No CAD package can put the as-printed number on a sheet — it doesn’t know 3D printing exists. Kiln Business.

First Article Inspection, Drafted for You

As you design, print, and log inspections in Kiln, it quietly builds the record. When an AS9102 First Article Inspection report is due, Kiln drafts it from the work you already did instead of asking you to reconstruct it by hand — your reviewer verifies and signs. Kiln Enterprise.

Smart Cost Estimation

Know what a print will cost before it starts — material, electricity, time. Get recommendations for cheaper filament alternatives, faster speed profiles, and quality tradeoffs.

Fleet & Fulfillment

Multi-printer fleet with job routing, scheduling, and failure rerouting. Print recovery with automatic retry. No local printer? Outsource to Craftcloud’s 150+ third-party services. Same tools, same safety.

Surface Decoration

Emboss or deboss photos, logos, and text onto any model. Multicolor printing support for Bambu AMS. 3 decorations/month free, unlimited with Pro. Scannable QR codes require Business.

Surface Textures

Tiger stripe, marble, snakeskin, lava, wood grain, and more. Procedural and geometric patterns applied directly to any model with zero cloud dependencies. Pro feature.

Material & Mesh Intelligence

45 brand-specific filaments with purchase links and compatibility matching. Plus mesh repair, boolean ops, hollowing, chamfers, fillets, and wall thickening. Know what spool to buy and fix broken STLs.

Mid-print Modification

Decorate, add features, or swap material on a live print — without restarting. Atomic revert if anything goes wrong. The G-code rewriter re-slices from the current layer, splices the change, and resumes with tamper-evident provenance. Pro feature.

Autonomous Failure Recovery

Detect failures via camera vision, diagnose root cause, auto-fix slicer settings, and resume from the exact layer — no filament wasted. Cross-printer learning compounds: every recovery on one machine improves recovery decisions on the rest. Pro feature.
